I have a number of strange interests, and arguably one of the most bizarre is called DX-ing.
Radio waves travel incredible distances at night and reception improves significantly. My strange hobby is tuning into these distant waves. I've owned a radio scanner since my thirteenth birthday and my interest in listening into others' communications hasn't gone away.
The cab drivers arguing, the Chicago police officers yelling as they get fired at, the tired FedEx pilots talking to approach control, and truck drivers on the CB remind you that it still is a big world. It's a way to listen into people going through their everyday lives, and this insight, unbeknownst to them, can be haunting and eerie at times.
