The best year?

Of course it's too early to make this final determination, and I'm gonna be open-minded to other years being really fucking awesome. But I'm convinced that Sophomore year is going to be my favorite year of college. Workload-wise, it's probably my hardest year, particularly this semester. I'm taking four checkrides and three FAA written exams in eight months. I'm learning at a rate that I'm never going to experience again. Back to back to back to back ratings and endorsements.

I don't have responsibilities. I live in the dorms. Someone cooks for me and there's not too much that I need to keep tidy. I live with a bunch of guys who are pretty immature, hilarious, and have my back. I'm not living with them next year, because they'd be awful roommates in an apartment with real responsibilities - but they're still great friends. My flying friends are great too, but they're just like me - they've grown up too fast as well and take life a little too seriously like I do. This is something I've never really had before - a great group of guys who aren't terribly mature enjoy living life as a kid. So that's been good to me. But it's ending after this year because I'd end up being the only one to cook. Am I starting to regret living with my aviation friends? Yes. But time will tell. It was mutually agreed upon between the four of us that we were going to live separately after this year. To mix it up. Three more places to party the way I see it.

This is my last year before I jump into the crazy fucking industry I very much want to be a part of. Yes I'm applying to internships, yes I'm looking for flight instructor positions, but it won't be the end of the world if I don't get a spot in the industry this summer. And of course the concept of having a summer "off" ends after college, which is creeping up faster than I've ever imagined.

Sophomore year was my favorite year of High School too. I knew what I was doing (okay, this is very debatable, I was an idiot) but the novelty of it hadn't worn off. Again, I'm not writing off the possibility of Junior and Senior years being amazing - because they were in High School as well. But I'm thoroughly convinced that Sophomore year of college is going to be my favorite year of college and one of the best years of my life.
