Juxtaposition

1. Juxtaposition. (n.) the fact of two things being seen or placed close together with contrasting effect.

C was on a call for work, calling people to confirm their enrollment in his ground school class, when his mother thought he was ignoring her because he couldn't put the phone down. This juxtaposition was irritating to him.

I'm an adult with a job in my field and I still get nagged by my mother and it's a juxtaposition that I don't know how to deal with. She doesn't get it. I'm not twelve any more. Also, juxtaposition is definitely one of my favorite words, second only to vitriol, which I might resort to shortly.
